Throwing a Party at KGM Design Museum

Shortly after finishing the first pre-production pair of speakers, we had a nice chance to test them publicly for the first time. Kunstgewerbemuseum, Berlins primary design museum, was about to open an exhibition in collaboration with local design universities. We were asked to handle the party side of things, which meant bringing our speakers, subwoofers, and custom furniture.

The celebration was to be held on the museum's terrace, located below the main entrance and park-facing, so noise complaints were not a concern. On the day before, we prepared all of our things in the June heat, measured the setup, and integrated the subwoofers.

It took us a while to come up with a bespoke solution for raising the speakers above our guest's heads. Since DOPPELHORN deliberately challenges the looks of common audio tech, using basic PA stands was out of the question. In the end, we built two monolithic angular towers and a large table from white OSB, mirroring the location's brutalist architecture and our own speaker's geometries.

The event itself was a beautiful summer evening that slowly developed from Aperols and engaging conversations to acid house and stylish dancers. We couldn't be happier with how it turned out, how it sounded, and how it was received. It still seems absurd that just a few days before, we were still in the workshop, assembling, sanding, and painting.
