DOPPELHORN 10.1

DOPPELHORN 10.1

Our debut speaker is inspired by early innovators and global soundsystem culture. It features a 10-inch woofer in a moderately front loaded bass reflex cabinet, passively crossed over to a 1-inch compression driver on a custom developed external horn.

Description

This versatile full-range system delivers clear highs, lively mids, and ample low end with generous headroom. It was created to suit your home hi-fi setup just as well as design-conscious venues looking to make a statement. To us, it embodies the perfect hybrid: More capable than regular hi-fi speakers, and musically superior to classic PA speakers.

Design Details

01: High frequency horn

Our high frequency horn is a specially developed part, produced in-house from industrial grade 3D filament. Its design draws from J. M. Le Cléac'h's work on wave propagation, with a calculated expansion that enables natural, smooth reproduction with minimal resonances. The horn also helps to direct energy, potentially leading to a more precise soundstage: Fewer chaotic reflections in your listening space may allow you to get away with less soundproofing.

02: Bass reflex horn

The striking frontal horn moderately loads the woofer in the low midrange and upwards, increasing its efficiency and reducing strain, ultimately lowering distortion. In addition, we use bass reflex ports to help the low-end output: The air in these openings resonates with the driver and enables sub-bass extension all the way down to 37 hertz. We use state of the art additive manufacturing to make this part in-house as a single component with integrated cabinet damping.

03: Passive crossover

To ensure that all components are playing together harmoniously, we spent several weeks refining the speaker's internal crossover: A hand-soldered passive circuit made from high quality European parts. Its careful tailoring to the speaker's behavior helps to ensure natural, low-distortion reproduction.

04: Terminal plate

The speaker's back panel features a metal plate with four binding posts – two as inputs and two for connecting the external tweeter. Since DOPPELHORN is passive, the only thing you need to plug in here are regular speaker cables, delivering both electricity and the audio signal. You'll also find an attenuator for the high frequencies, since we're leaving it up to you to dial in the tweeter's strength depending on taste, use case, and location.

05: Modular mounts

All four side walls are fitted with strong threaded flanges accepting M20 screws. One holds the external horn in place, while the remaining three enable integration of other attachments like stands or brackets. With these flanges, the speakers become modular, opening up diverse configurations and the choice of vertical or horizontal use.

Room-Filling Sound

Efficient components and physical horn loading result in generous headroom for playing loud, but refined.

Material Philosophy

We are relying on functional design and honest materials: Grade A birch plywood and industrial polymer, combined with stainless steel parts from local partners.

Right to Repair

DOPPELHORN is designed to be airtight, but also accessible. By opening the back panel, you can check and replace compononents in case they wear out during the speaker's long life.
