The Dresden Design Days – east Germany's first coherent design exhibition – were brought to life by a team of local designers (some of which we had already met earlier this year during our group exhibition in Milan) with the intention to give a platform to eastern German and European voices, inviting participants and visitors to understand the region as a "productive space of transition, translation, and rethinking."
The team curated several notable spaces across east Germany's cultural capital. We joined the exhibition at Neustädter Martkhalle, a large open floor filled with art pieces, humorous designs, and some functional ideas. Coined "Modern Gap Fillers," the exhibition claimed to demonstrate how contemporary design could fill urban gaps with new perspectives. With their adaptable nature, our DOPPELHORN speakers fit right into the concept, occupying the functional end of the exhibition's spectrum.
The system was positioned as the centerpiece of the space, accompanying the circling guests with an ambient soundtrack and inviting them to stay. Thanks to a collaboration with Ligne Roset, a Togo sofa lounge made intentional listening all the more comfortable (although the acoustics left much to be desired). We brought our new subwoofers as low stands and powered the setup with our beloved Yamaha P-Series amplifiers, negotiated by a Funktion-One XO2. This marked our maiden voyage with this kit, and the occasion was a perfect fit for such a good looking rack.
Very nice to see some familiar faces, meet new people, and connect over form, function, and beauty. We're excited to see what the future holds for the region and Germany's upcoming designers.
